![]() ![]() Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs.Yes, all of your hair will be gone and you'll have to get hair cuts every couple of weeks depending on how fast your hair grows. That's the biggest achievement I know of. However, if you do incredibly well in your language and military wise at DLI, you can be recruited into CIA/FBI instead, or some other secret organization that we don't know about and your military contract will be voided. The schooling options afterward are the same for any military member that serves their enlistment. The higher ups sort through all of what the linguists find and see if a puzzle can be put together with any of it. You don't get to know any of the big things. You write down what you learn and send it to higher ups. Actively you will probably be listening to people talking as you fly over them. It's a 6 year minimum active duty for linguist. You should work on push ups, sit ups, and a mile and a half run. Also, at DLI, all of the other branches feel sorry for the AF because the leadership feels like they have to treat them like children. So with mandatory PT and meetings added onto that, there isn't much free time.I took Hebrew and had at least 2-3 hours of homework every night. One thing is certain, you do learn the language.(There are a few dialects to learn as well in those two) You would more than likely be assigned Farsi or Arabic. Last I checked, Chinese linguists were seriously overmanned. Only officers can learn German and no one learns Japanese. One more will I have to lose all my hair :C I like it medium length but oli guess it'll grow back someday. Thank you for all the feedback and or support you give! What would schooling options be afterword?Īnd lastly I'm very sorry as this has possibly been asked soo many times but as you can imagine for a twenty year old who has done nothing with his life but graduate highschool the thought of the military scares me because it will be such a huge change but I feel like its something I feel I need to do for myself. Should I aim for 100?Īnd well what's it like after you join how long would it be for? With the lingustixs what would I be possibly doing combat/deployment wise? What should I try my best to be able to do before joining ? I'm not fat or overweight but I really can maybe lift 60 pounds in each hand struggling. With that is there a set time to join?Īnd really what physical shape should I be in? a friend I work with is telling me I should start running and doing push UPS and sit UPS. What is required to Join and what should I try to do before joining? I'm thinking about joining next year to 7 months to 5 months from now. How do you learn the language? And how much time is spent on it and how many do you learn? And can you choose the languages you learn or are you just trained to learn the ones they need this is important as I'd love to learn Japanese and or German preferably Japanese if I had to sacrFice one it'd be German.
